Chlus hydropower plant

The new power plant is designed to use the stretch of river between Küblis/Chlus and Chlus/Rhine to generate electricity. Besides direct use of water from the Küblis plant turbines, the project also foresees using the River Landquart (only in the summer half of the year) and three side streams as water catchments. The Chlus installation is to be operated in cascade with the Küblis power plant, with a small equalisation reservoir in Küblis keeping the two plants in balance. Once the water has passed through the turbines it will be taken by pressure line from the Chlus powerhouse to the turbines of the Rhine powerhouse, where it will be fed into the Rhine. Preparations are currently under way for the concession project and the environmental impact report. Repower expects to submit the necessary request for concession approval in the course of 2012, with commissioning of the plant then anticipated in 2017.
