The project in Lucera (Apulia, Italy) involves plans for a wind farm with a total of 28 turbines. Lucera is located at 250 metres above sea level in the province of Foggia. The area has ideal climatic conditions for the generation of wind power. The approval process for thirteen of the planned wind installations (‘Lucera 1’) has been completed and in August 2011 construction began. This means that these turbines can be expected to go into operation in the second half of 2012. At present the environmental impact assessment is under way for the remaining 15 turbines (‘Lucera 2’).
Wind power is a key component of Repower’s generation portfolio. Adding a new renewable generation asset to the portfolio, the Lucera project is a logical step in the company’s strategy of building and maintaining a diversified mix of generation assets.
