naturemade
«naturemade» is an established Swiss label backed jointly by large consumers, the leading environmental and consumer organisations (WWF, Pro Natura and Konsumentenforum Schweiz) and the electricity industry. The label, awarded by the VUE association for environmentally sound energy, comes in two quality standards:
«naturemade basic» is electricity from climate-friendly generation under a promotional scheme (new assets). «naturemade star» is high-quality green power produced under a promotional scheme, including local revitalisation measures in the catchment area of the hydropower plants used in its generation. Thanks to our network we can give our customers a wide range of options to choose from. Whether you want to maximise the Swiss, wind or low-cost component, we have solutions to suit all needs and requirements.
Promotional scheme
For naturemade products, at least five per cent must come from naturemade star-certified plants. At least 2.5 per cent must come from new renewable generation assets, in other words new wind, solar or biomass installations (built from 1995 onwards). Under the promotional scheme, the more naturemade electricity is consumed, the more plants of this sort must be built and/or environmentally upgraded.
Fund for Ecological Improvements
The allocation of funds from the eco-fund is decided by a committee comprising power plant operators, local authorities and the relevant environmental organisations. As a rule, the projects funded involve the renaturation of power station catchment areas.
The following basic requirements apply:
- Hydropower plants with a capacity of greater than 100 kW
- 0.1 Swiss cents per kilowatt hour of «naturemade star» electricity produced
- 0.9 Swiss cents per kilowatt hour of «naturemade star» electricity sold
